Village Flower Show - 12th September 2021

After much deliberation it’s been decided to host the first Hockham event for two years or so and hold a reduced Flower Show in September.  We are sure Covid will still be active to some degree, so we need to be cautious, but we very much hope the country is “open for business”.

We plan, with permission, to use the large pub marquee in the Eagle Car Park, but feel that we should reduce the classes down from the usual 90 plus to around 60.  Because the show will be outside, albeit with a cover, we’ve dropped some of the usual foodstuffs from the show. This is because the items will perish, should it be warm and if we get flies etc.

The focus will therefore be on Flowers, Fruit and vegetables, Floral Art, Photography, Handicrafts and Children’s and Young Adults sections. Maybe over the school summer holidays some parents might be able to encourage their children to make things for the show, to pass the time on wet days.

The Fruit and Vegetable classes have been simplified a bit as we realise people won’t be growing things specially for showing, so please have a think about what you might put in and let’s see if we can fill the marquee. It would be so so nice if we had a space problem from so many entries!

Hockham has had a Flower Show since 1892, with few breaks in the sequence, it seems right that it should become one of the first attended Village events since Covid hit us.

Please support the event if you can. Entry for over 18’s is 10p per entry, under 18’s are free. It’s an open show, so not just for Hockham residents. Even if you don’t enter, then please come along to see what’s been put in and have a long awaited socialise.

Full details are on the Schedule together with the Rules, which can be downloaded here

Any profits go to the Village Playing Field, we hope the auction is an event in itself!
